As a coach, I often see how deeply our bodies hold onto the past. We tend to think of healing as something that happens in the mind, but the truth is that our bodies are wise, storing experiences—especially trauma—on a cellular level. This is where somatic healing comes in, and why it has become such a transformative approach for so many people.
Somatic healing taps into the profound connection between our mind, body, and nervous system. On a neurobiological level, it works with how the body processes trauma, allowing it to release stored tension and emotion that talk therapy or cognitive approaches often can’t reach. Trauma, stress, and emotional pain are stored in the body, sometimes manifesting as chronic tension, pain, or even illness. When we don’t address this physical aspect of our experiences, our body holds on to the trauma, leading to long-term effects on our health and well-being.
What’s exciting about somatic healing is that it engages the body’s natural ability to heal. Through practices like breathwork, body scanning, and mindful movement, we can access the body’s wisdom, inviting the nervous system to shift out of a state of survival—what we often call “fight, flight, or freeze”—and into a place of safety and healing. This not only helps us release trauma but also restores balance to our entire system.
On a personal level, I’ve seen profound shifts in my clients as they reconnect with their bodies in this way. It’s as though, for the first time, they’re truly listening to their body’s messages, allowing space for healing to happen from the inside out. The more we understand the science behind somatic healing, the clearer it becomes that this isn’t just a “wellness trend”—it’s a powerful, science-backed approach to releasing what no longer serves us.
I encourage you to explore this connection between your body and mind. As you do, you may find that true healing requires going beyond the mind, deep into the body where so much of our history is stored. Somatic healing offers a way to unlock that, and it’s a journey I’m honored to guide.
